Living in the rural part of Victoria has both pro's and cons...the Pro's are endless with
-green everything
-pitch black skies at night
-wildlife
-tractors driving up and down the road
-horses ridden past your house
-lakes within walking distance

and so on and on..

Sadly we have a blight that has no real cure, speeders. A couple of times per year one or two of them are forcebly removed from our lives, leaving a trail of busted glass and car parts in their wake. The rescue crews shovel up whats left of the person driving the car and the police make that horrid visit to their families to inform them of their sudden end. 1 less maniac speeding down Oldfield you think...no...for everyone that is lost 3 take their place.

I personally feel bad for their families and loved ones...I don't feel bad for them though..they are warned, ticketed and warned again. Why feel bad for those who don't care..don't listen.

In the 7 years I have lived here I have seen a lot of destroyed cars, sheet covered bodies and it just continues to get worse. The sheer number of animals that are victims to this is almost unmeasurable. There is a doe, buck, rabbit, dog, cat or bird laying in the ditch every 3 or 4 km's daily, mostly finished off by those moving to fast to stop. At least 1 bike riders is struck monthly and 1 horse/rider every two months.

What will it take to slow down these people...nothing I feel. It will only get worse till the municaplities feel a 4 lane hiway is in order...then we will see the death tolls rise.. it will be more animals and then it will be the people who live here...struck trying to get in or out of their driveways.

Progress, good?? not for the farming communities.....
